Greater Princeton AYLUS Continues Education Help Program (59th) in August 2021

In August, the Greater Princeton Branch of AYLUS (GPA) students continued their Education Help Program. As school ends and summer break starts, some middle school students are looking for tutoring classes to improve their academic skills in classes like math, science, or reading. Because of this, GPA is holding tutoring opportunities in core subjects.

GPA members Karen Yang (8/22, 2 hrs), Kathy Yang (8/22, 2 hrs), Kevin Song (8/22, 3 hrs), Yan Fischer (8/22, 2 hrs): This week we began with a quadratic coefficient problem. We asked students to find values of A, B, C, D in a quadratic equation based on numbers that would be multiplied and added to form a coherent quadratic equation where the quadratic coefficient wasn’t one. We then did other quadratic coefficient problems, taking care to explain them when students didn’t understand. We’ll be having our first fall semester class on September 12th!

Catherine Feng (8/22, 3 hrs) tutored her student in math: This week, we focused on averages and solving questions related to them algebraically. We also reviewed some algebraic concepts, including setting up equations, distribution, and solving these equations. Catherine tutored another student in reading (8/22, 1 hr): I read four picture books about animals, robots, and machines with them. We then discussed their contents and illustrations.

Sophia Song (8/25, 2 hrs), Annie Miao (8/25, 2 hrs) tutored their students in math: They continued discussing the rules of different shapes and started doing problems that use variables. Annie finished up reviewing 2D shapes with her tutee and started discussing 3D shapes, their rules, and how to find volume.

The program allows GPA members to provide reading, writing, speaking, communication, and more to their students across the country.
