Greater Princeton AYLUS Volunteers Teach Math (44th) in November 2020

In November 2020, student members of the Greater Princeton Branch of AYLUS (GPA) teamed up and continued teaching kids in the subjects of math.

GPA members Karen Yang, Kevin Song, Kathy Yang (11/22, 2 hrs): This week we continued our Algebra content! First, we gave the kids a check in question, to see how ready they were for their “quiz” on the content we learned last week. Our rule is that if you got something wrong at the check in/quiz, we gave the kids a chance to show their work and redo it. If completed correctly, they will get full points! We also went over the late homework policy and other reminders, such as getting work done neatly. After that, we introduced exponent rules more in depth. This included what happened when exponents added, divided, multiplied, with and without parenthesis, etc. Then, we assigned homework for the next class. We’ll be having class in two weeks (Thanksgiving break!)!

GPA member Annie Miao (11/22, 2 hrs): This week, Annie had her 10th week of math tutoring in which she taught her 5th-grade student more about negative numbers and also had a review about the order of operations. Her student learned how to multiply, divide, add, and subtract negative numbers and that equations should be done using the order of pemdas.

On November 22, GPA member Annabelle Huang tutored a student from her township PSAT for 2 hours.
