Greater Princeton AYLUS Hosted (1st) “Chess Tournament for AYLUS” on September 5, 2020

Besides holding chess class every Monday, on September 5, from 1:30-3:00 PM EST, the Greater Princeton Branch of AYLUS (GPA) hosted its first online Chess Tournament to promote youth volunteer community services.

GPA members Sarah Yan and Erick Yan hosted ABC Chess Club’s first chess tournament on chess.com. The tournament offers a chance for students as well as other eager chess players around the world to learn more about chess and get real experience while playing against each other.

More than 10 people registered for this 10+5 time controlled tournament, including players from Canada and New York State. Half an hour before the tournament, there was a zoom meeting held to introduce the rules of the tournament and how the tournament would work. The AYLUS program was also introduced, along with various projects led by Alliance of Youth Leaders in the United States (AYLUS) to promote youth community services, and how to help the organization by donating (Zelle or Paypal to: aylusgreaterprinceton@gmail.com).

10 players competed in the one hour of intense chess arena.  The arena style tournament allowed one hour for as many games as possible to be played. With some players playing up to 7 games, the results became very close. The winner, “NightSahde2526”, was separated from second place “kevinyang2019”, by only 2 points, or led by winning one extra game. Everyone enjoyed the fund of playing chess at the tournament. One player even asked if he could play one more game towards the 1 hour time limit.

Time control: 10 minutes (time you have to make all of your moves) + 5 seconds (bonus seconds you get for every move you make).

AYLUS received donations of $50 from Xuejing Liu today. Thank you!

The 2nd ABC Chess Tournament Fundraiser will be held via chess.com at 2-3 pm EST, Saturday, September 19th, 2020. All chess lovers, adults and children, are all welcome. More and more people will get to know and support AYLUS, along with battling each other with their chess skills to determine who will be the ultimate champion.
