East Cobb Branch ‘Give a Hand’- YMCA Thanksgiving Pack Lunch

East Cobb Branch Participates in YMCA Lunch Delivery Program November 25-27, 2019

During the week of November 25, 2019, members of East Cobb Branch participated in the YMCA Lunch Packing Program.

The program’s goal is to serve over 300 children each day over school breaks. It needs many volunteers to help deliver and serve lunches to local kids. These children may not be able to have a healthy meal when school is out. The program also inspires volunteers to communicate with the children. The lunches and bags are both donated by different organizations, such as schools and churches.

On Monday, Brian, Samuel, Matthew, and Theodore pre-packed and handed out around 60 lunches at Hillcrest. There were lots of children on that day.

On Tuesday, Eileen and Delrick went to Hillcrest and Garden Terrace and packed about 100 lunches for an hour.  A lot of the children came to pick up the lunches.

On Wednesday, Brian, Kevin, Eileen, and Maxwell went to the YMCA to pack over 100 meals. When they first arrived, they immediately began to help decorate cards that would be sent out in the Holiday season. The volunteers cut out, colored, and glued together decorations to adorn the cards. After finishing a good amount of cards, everyone began to pack healthy lunches with sandwiches and snacks for the children. Since there were so many volunteers helping, all of the lunches were quickly packed and the members headed towards Clifton Ridge to pass them out to the children.

Our members participated in the whole process of the program by packing the lunches in paper bags at YMCA and then handing them out at different locations. They also played ball and hula-hooped with the children who stayed.

Attendance: Samuel Lu (2.5 hours), Matthew Lu (2.5 hours), Theodore Lu (2.5 hours), Brian Kuang (5 hours), Eileen Zhang (5 hours), Delrick Zhang (2.5 hours), Kevin Shen (2.5 hours), Maxwell Jiang (2.5 hours)
