Greater Princeton AYLUS Offered Chinese Lessons at Plainsboro School on Sundays March 17 through April 28, 2019

Reported by Cassie Tammy Wang:

Greater Princeton AYLUS (GPA) member Zihui Xiao (Alisa) volunteered to be a Chinese teacher in the HuaXia Chinese School at Plainsboro. Alisa’s student is a 50+ year old gentleman and the class has been scheduled for Sunday, 1:30-3:30pm, on a weekly basis.

Information Provided by Alisa:

Each time my student came to class, I would lead him to review what we learned last time. If he could 80% remembered, we would move on to the next chapter. Also, I would check his homework that I assigned for him last time; I found that the biggest challenge for him right now is grammar. But, I think as long as he can do more reading, more speaking and more listening, it would improve his grammar.

For the new chapter, I would teach him how to read each vocabulary and explain the definition. Then, I would give him first try to read paragraph. If he read something wrong, I would correct him. Practice makes pect, I found that since I give let him to try how to read a paragraph by himself, he is getting more fluently than the first time that he read. At the end of the class, I would assigned homework for him. His homework is relate to what we learned today, which really helps him to understand and practice.

Service dates of Zihui Xiao: March 17th, 2019 (2 hours), March 24th, 2019 (2 hours), March 31st, 2019 (2 hours), April 14th, 2019 (2 hours), and April 28th, 2019 (2 hours).
