Greater Princeton AYLUS Volunteered at Doctor Zhuping Chang’s Office on March 23, 2019

Reported by Cassie Tammy Wang

Greater Princeton AYLUS (GPA) recently encouraged Cathy Li to volunteer at Doctor Zhuping Chang’s office, located at 3 Market Street Suite 422. Dr. Chang, MD, is a famous Internist in Plainsboro Township, NJ.

On Saturday, March 23rd, 2019, GPA member Cathy Li spent 3 hours (8:30-11:30 am) at the doctor’s office, getting an idea of the ins-and-outs of technical techniques. Tina, the nurse at the office allowed Cathy to shadow under her.

Tina instructed that whenever a patient comes into the office, Cathy was to instruct the patient to sign-in on a clipboard. Additionally, Cathy would measure the heights and weights of the patient, and tell Tina the numbers so she can recorded down onto the computer.

Cathy also had the opportunity to measure patients’ blood pressures, and learned what numbers were considered normal and abnormal for systolic and diastolic blood pressures.

Later, Cathy was able to watch Tina perform EKGs on some of the patients, and the order and orientation in which you put the “stickers.” She informed Cathy that EKGs are given to patients 40 years and older, and once per year.

Cathy looks forward to future opportunities volunteering at Dr. Chang’s office.
