February is Black History Month, also known as the African American History Month. On Saturday, Feb. 16th, 2019, the Mercer County Library in West Windsor celebrated Black History Month to remember the important contributions and achievements of African Americans throughout our nation’s history. Greater Princeton AYLUS (GPA) supported the Mercer County Library at the event.

The celebration began with GPA member Amber Yu telling stories to the kids about Martin Luther King, Jr. and Garrett Morgan. Dr. Martin Luther King was a well-known civil rights leader and activist, who had a great deal of influence on the American society, while Mr. Garrett Augustus Morgan, Sr. was an African American inventor and businessman as well as an influential political leader. Both gentlemen are considered very important people in the American history.

After that, Amber helped staff with cookie decorating, card making, poster designing, as well as word searches with the kids. These activities made a very special day for kids and their parents.

Service time of Amber Yu: February 16th, 2019, from 3pm to 4pm (1 hour)
