East Cobb Branch Participated in the Feed My Starving Children Program I

On November 9th, 2018, members from the East Cobb Branch of AYLUS went to JFBC to help pack meals for kids in need, specifically in Africa. The organization that created the program, Feed My Starving Children, is a non-profit group whose main goal is to ensure that kids all over the world have access to healthy meal.

When the members arrived, they were briefed on what the program was about and then volunteered for job assignments. As over two hundred people attended the event, there were a plethora of jobs that could be taken, ranging from putting stickers onto meal packets to making boxes to put completed meals into. Some members chose to be a part of the warehouse crew, whose main jobs were to distribute rice and soy, the two main ingredients of every meal, and to make and label the final boxes. Other members decided to make the meals themselves. This task consists of measuring one cup of rice, one cup of soy protein, one spoon of Vitamin-packed flavoring, and one spoon of dried vegetables and putting into a funnel, which fills the meal pack. When the meal-makers needed more of one ingredient, for example, rice, the warehouse crew would supply them with a refill of the respective ingredient. This process went on until the event ended.

After packing for 2 hours, the members, along with other volunteers, were brought into the briefing room again to find out how many meals they have packed. In total, volunteers had packed one hundred and ninety BOXES, each of which contains multiple separate meals. Combined, they can feed 112 kids for a year.

The AYLUS members were very grateful for this opportunity. Having a real, tangible impact on a person’s life can be very rewarding, and providing meals for children who can’t get any can definitely change that child’s life for the better.

Attendance: Howard Hua, Diane Chen, Eileen Zhang, David Qu, Michael Fu, Rachel Li, Eugene Li, Kevin Shen, Jiarong Wang, Katherine Sha, Maxwell Jiang, Stanley Lu and Delrick Shen.  (2 hours each)
