June Newsletter

{Transcript of email sent on June 21}

To all Branch Presidents, Vice Presidents, and advisors,

Starting this month, we will be sending newsletters informing the AYLUS branch leaders and advisors of current events in AYLUS. Please let me know if you would like to be excluded from this email list, or if you would like to add someone (perhaps a parent) to it. You can email back at aylus.org@gmail.com for those changes.

JUNE EVENTS

– Congratulations to the Metro Detroit branch for successfully founding the 2016 AYLUS Water Crisis Event, and hosting their own fundraiser for it. You can read more about the event here, and see the Metro Detroit branch in action here. Please support them by hosting a similar event with your own branch!

– AYLUS member Kevin Chen has founded the 2016 AYLUS Community Survey Event, and plans on hosting a discussion June 23 at 10:00 PM. Please email him at kevinxiaobao@gmail.com if you are interested in joining.

– AYLUS member Sophie Wen successfully hosted a TutorsWorld meeting on June 12 discussing changes to be made to the tutorsworld.org website. Please contact her at sophiewen1999@gmail.com if you would like to participate in future meetings, or become a tutor for the site.

Volunteer Station (volunteerstation.org), founded by many AYLUS members, has opportunities for quick, low-effort volunteer hours! Here, you can find volunteer organizations that offer volunteer hours for your support. This is a community-based website, which means we need your submissions for volunteer opportunities in each state! Follow the following steps to gain ONE volunteer hour for each organization added:

1) Register for an account HERE (This is the “invite” code.) This will help us keep track of hours.
2) Go to the “Forum” tab and click on “Organization.” Then click on a blue button that says “New.”
3) Research a volunteer organization in your state or area! Make sure to give information such as the organization’s mission, statistics (if any), logos, and contact information, as well as a short description. For reference, please check out this one, which features the Greater Boston Food Bank.
4) Once you’ve published your post, “recommend” it for the corresponding state, or if it’s a national organization, select “National.”

Read more about the Volunteer Station organization here.

Please support these AYLUS events by spreading the word to your branch members! As leaders of the AYLUS community, you are expected to lead your branches in participating in as many AYLUS events as possible, and support your fellow AYLUS members.

Please email me at president@aylus.org if you have any questions. If you have any news from your branch you would like me to include in these newsletters, please email me at aylus.org@gmail.com.

Sincerely,

Christie Yu

President of AYLUS
