Name: Yupei Xu Grade: 11th Title: Antiquity	This piece is showing ancient flourish Chinese culture which I love a lot.
Name: Yupei Xu Grade: 11th Title: The Castle	I was impressed by the magnificence of a royal castle which was a remnant of French colonists in Louisiana. The best way to demonstrate its grandiose figure is to paint it with lines emphasizing on the contour.
Name: Yupei Xu Grade: 11th Title: Coffee for One	This piece has sad stories. At that time my family visited my grandmother’s sister Mary’s grave during the spring break. She passed away after Thanksgiving. That reminds me of the fact that she had depression and autism since her husband died years ago. She talked only to herself and her husband even though he had passed away. She ate alone, watched TV alone, and did everything alone. I was trying to understand her by putting myself at her perspective and feeling her loneliness. Notice that coffee is for one, pastries are for two. This is a piece about consciousness and unconsciousness of Mary.
Name: Yupei Xu Grade: 11th Title: Fading	Aged buildings have diverse impression to me. They always tell meaningful stories which should have been remembered. There might be good, positive, and happy stories; there might be grieve, gloomy, and negative memories. Coming down the stairs, I go over those memories. The faded ones often have the sad stories. I like these profound memories and rift and mosses on walls; they tell different stories, they really do.
Name: Yupei Xu Grade: 11th Title: Frenchness	It’s freshness and liveliness of plazas in modern Europe! Excitement and activeness are shown since customers are coming to the table soon.
Name: Yupei Xu Grade: 11th Title: Glass	Who doesn’t like clearness and neatness! Glass still-life emphasizes on clean and tidy feeling.*This piece got hung on campus also.
Name: Yupei Xu Grade: 11th Title: Japanese Fashion	I like Japanese women’s wearing. Those patterns are pretty interesting!
Name: Yupei Xu Grade: 11th Title: Candy Wheel	A Christmas piece which shows my excitement to Christmas. I imagine car wheels as candies driving me to Christmas parties!

Name: Yupei Xu Grade: 11th Title: Motherhood	Mother’s love and care protect the baby from outside world. This piece shows that motherhood has greatest love.

Name: Yupei Xu Grade: 11th Title: Telephone Pole	This telephone pole stands silently in noisy downtown. I accidentally feel its grieve and isolation for a second. This piece is an good record of that feeling. You know, sometimes we all just feel sad and stressed.
Name: Yupei Xu Grade: 11th Title: The Tribal	Tribes always give us a sense of expression and passion, so does this piece. Big chunks of colors illustrate that how bold childhood and youth can be.
Name: Yupei Xu Grade: 11th Title: Vibrant Denmark	This is my favorite out of all. It’s a quiet little house surrounded by peace and rest. White walls show purity and innocence remain untouched. Blue sky illustrates clarity and freedom. Woods demonstrate corporation and peace of nature.
Name: Yupei Xu Grade: 11th Title: Yacht and Pier	It’s a story about quietness of the beautiful and peaceful pier. It’s in watercolor, which is a medium I considered freedom.
