AYLUS Manhasset’s First Wood Ash Composting Session

On 12/24/21, AYLUS Manhasset participated in a composting event to burn wood ash for the first time. Members took turns watching over and feeding the fire.

Since it was the first event like this, everyone was careful to ensure everyone’s safety and took turns gathering wood and providing supplies to each other. Some members tried roasting marshmallows for fun.

After a few hours when some of the wood was burned, the wood ash was gathered from the area after the fire had completely died down and the area was cooled down. Although a lot of wood was burned, there wasn’t as much wood ash as expected.

After this event, members visited the nearby museum to promote mental health awareness and the importance of spending time in nature.

The members who participated were Gavin Cao (3 hrs), Loretta Liu (3 hrs), Jocelyn Liu (3 hrs), Joanna Yang (3 hrs), Matthew Yang (3 hrs), Alex Lu (3 hrs), Jonnas Kim (3 hrs)
