On 3/26/22, AYLUS Syosset journeyed to Tobay Beach in Massapequa to participate in an event hosted by the Town of Oyster Bay’s supervisor, Joseph Saladino along with thousands of TOB residents, combating global warming, sea level rise, and beach erosion. When the members first arrived, they received large quantities of lengthy, healthy dune grass and shovels. They soon started to dig holes into scarcely vegetated areas of the dunes to plant bundles of dune grass.
The dune grass is part of nature’s natural defense to coastal flooding and beach erosion and through our efforts, we hope to mitigate the damages of future storm surges or large waves for Oyster Bay’s residents and maintain the sand on the beach for as long as possible for future generations to enjoy.
Members who participated include Alan Huang (3 hours), Jasmine Chen (3 hours), Ryan Leung (3 hours), Leo Cheng (3 hours), Kelly Shen (3 hours), Haoyu Qiu (3 hours), Shiloh Ye (3 hours), Jiamin Wang (3 hours), Jiaqi Wang (3 hours), Feili Li (2 hours), Shengqi Johnny Zhang (2 hours), Sherwin Ye (2 hours), Sherwood Ye (2 hours), and Advisors Julia, Shirley, Francina, Linda, Steven, Andrew and Zhiguo, .
