On 7/10/21, members of the AYLUS Syosset Branch participated in the construction and filling of a composter for a house in the community of Syosset, NY.
The composter is made out of recycled plastics and came unassembled in a box. Members of the AYLUS branch then constructed the composter and began the filling process. The composted materials such as food scraps(banana peels, egg shells, watermelon rinds, etc.), paper shreds, and decayed sticks and plants were all used to fill the container layer by layer.
Through events like these, AYLUS Syosset hopes to better combat the problem of food waste in our community by recycling materials that aren’t used. In the future, this composter(along with many others) will recycle hundreds of unusable/unfinished scraps and help make our community as green as can be.
Members that participated include Alan Huang (2 hours), Jasmine Chen (2 hours), Ryan Leung (2 hours), Aika Siuzu (2 hours), Leo Cheng (2 hours), Kayleen Tao (2 hours), and Matthew Lee (2 hours).
