East Cobb Branch 3D Printing Shield Masks for Local Healthcare Units VI

Beginning April 9 2020, Howard Hua started the manufacturing of 100 plastic face shields for healthcare workers fighting COVID-19. Face shields are important pieces of personal protective equipment needed for protecting frontline healthcare workers because they block dangerous airborne droplets from hitting the doctor’s face. When combined with a respirator and full body suit, personal protective equipment greatly improves the barrier between the virus and the healthcare provider. These face shields were constructed out of a 3D printable plastic frame and thin plastic overhead transparency visors and could be reused using alcohol sanitizer. Howard successfully printed approximately 5 shields per day and was able to donate total 100 shields to AYLUS within 3 weeks. These shields will be used in hospitals in the Metro Atlanta Area including Kennestone Memorial Hospital.
