East Cobb Branch Created 3D Printed Shield Masks for Local Healthcare Unit in May 2020

The 3D printing project was planned to use 3D printing to print face-shield frames, which would be supplied to local hospitals and healthcare centers. AYLUS East Cobb Branch organized six groups in the  to have a turn with the 3D printer and print 20 frames each. By printing 20 mask holders per person, AYLUS planned to donate hundreds of facial mask holders with the final eventual goal to contribute to the stressed, overworked local hospitals.

On the first day, I had the 3D printer and I made around 5 face-shield frames. Over the next three days, I also printed 5 frames a day. By the end of the fourth day, I had printed a total of 20 frames.

I chose to participate in this activity because I believed that with countless healthcare workers risking their lives with only rapidly dwindling supplies of PPE in between them and the COVID-19, the least I could do was to help produce more supplies for those doctors.

Although we encountered quite a few issues that resulted in quite a few hours of YouTube searches, the outcome was really rewarding. The thought that I had printed 20 face shield frames for the doctors who protect the community gives me a feeling like saving lives.
