To encourage younger children to play chess, the Greater Princeton Branch of AYLUS (GPA) members Sarah Yan and Erick Yan created the ABC Chess program at West Windsor Public Library.
GPA volunteers Sarah Yan was the Champion of 2017 NJ Open U1600, while Erick Yan was the Champion of 2016 Manhattan Open Mixed Doubles Team. They will teach around 12 school-aged children how to play chess and various strategies used to win a game.
The program is once a week till June 2020. Each class lasts 2 hours, with preparation included. The class is in the format of teaching, tactics and game playing. GPA plans to get more children interested in the tough yet fun game of chess and let younger kids in the community learn the beautiful mind game and keep it as a lifelong hobby.
