Greater Princeton AYLUS “National Map Corps Team” Volunteered (6th) with the United States Geological Survey to Provide Accurate Mapping Information on September 5, 2019

Reported by Amber Yu

Greater Princeton AYLUS (GPA) “National Map Corps Team” continued its project with the United States Geological Survey (USGS), helped the National Map Corps (TNMCorps, https://edits.nationalmap.gov/tnmcorps/) edit mapping information during the summer.

TNMCorps is a community of volunteers who review and confirm the data of the structures that are going into The National Map, including the U.S., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. As part of The National Map, structures include schools, hospitals, post offices, police stations, cemeteries, and other important public buildings. By updating and verifying structures data, volunteers are making significant contributions to USGS National Structures Database, The National Map, and ultimately U.S. Topo Maps!

GPA “National Map Corps Team” members Amber Yu, Catherine Feng, and Ryan Tian, were acknowledged for doing quality volunteer work, contributing greatly to the editing efforts, and have recently become Advanced Editors. As Advanced Editors, they can work on unedited or edited points (including their own points or those needing peer review). Points edited or saved by an Advanced Editor are not subject to peer review by other volunteers.

On September 5, 2019, the new points that Amber Yu has edited added 3 hours to her community service time. Her next goal is to reach 1,000 points edited to get into the Alidade Alliance Recognition Category. The new points that Catherine Feng and Ryan Tian have edited added 1 hour each to their community service time.

GPA team’s successful editing experience would keep this project moving forward. Happy mapping!
