On July 21st from 6:45 to 8:45 pm, three members of AYLUS great neck branch assisted in a Chinese calligraphy and painting class at the Station Library.
Our main responsibility was to alternate translations to ensure smooth communication between students and teachers as not all students spoke Chinese. Before the class, we prepared paper for the students and distributed brushes and ink. We also filled up small tubs of water to clean their brushes. Today students learned to draw small fish in a pond with lily pads. Throughout the learning process, the students showed a strong interest in Chinese painting and practiced very attentively. We were there through the whole process to assist the teacher with anything he may need help with.
After the class volunteers took the time to stay and clean up, we washed out the dirty water tubs, paint pallets, and brushes to ensure clean materials for the next class. Students were able to learn the careful art of Chinese calligraphy and connect themselves to Chinese culture.
