During the week of 7/1 and 7/3, 2019, 8 members of East Cobb Branch participated in the YMCA Lunch Packing Program.
The program’s goal is to serve over 300 children each day over school breaks. It needs many volunteers to help deliver and serve lunches to local kids. These children may not be able to have a healthy meal when school is out. The program also inspires volunteers to communicate with the children.
On 7/1, Susanna, Selina, Cynthia, Jay, Jonathan, and Brian went to Hillcrest Apartments and packed about 30 lunches for 2.5 hours. A lot kids came to pick up the lunches.
On 7/3, Brian returned to Hillcrest Apartments and packed about 25 lunches while Saloni and Adit went to Bella Grande for 2.5 hours and packed 36 lunches.
Our members participated in the whole process of the program by both packing and delivering nutritiously balanced meals, as well as interacting with the children that were there, such as playing catch with them, blowing bubbles, etc. Helping the kids and seeing the smiles on their faces as we were giving them lunches was an amazing feeling, as sometimes we forget how lucky we are to have food on our plate every meal. Playing with the kids was also very entertaining, and it was nice putting smiles on their faces and making them laugh.
Attendance: Susanna Huang (2.5 hours), Selina Huang (2.5 hours), Cynthia Ruan (2.5 hours), Jay Pan (2.5 hours), Jonathan Wang (2.5 hours), Adit Jain (2.5 hours), Saloni Jain (2.5 hours), Brian Kuang (5 hours)
