East Cobb Branch Participates in YMCA Healthy Kids Day Program

On April 27th, three members of the East Cobb Branch spent six hours participating in the YMCA Kids Day Program.

The program’s goal is to encourage kids to have a healthy diet. It needs many volunteers to help run the stands and prep all the materials. The program also inspires families to lead a healthy lifestyle.

Our members participated by setting up the tents, tables,

and chairs for the sponsors and the activity stations. The volunteers also set up the refreshments and prepared bags and papers to hand to the families. During the festival, volunteers welcomed families and helped direct them to what they were looking for. For example, volunteers would guide parents to a table for free swim lessons. After the event was over, volunteers helped clean the field, taking down tents and tables and loading them into the trucks.

This event was a really great way to encourage healthiness in both the children and the adults. The YMCA had prepared different activities at certain parts of the festival, like a fun run, hula hoops, dance classes, and yoga. When the people attending the instructor’s lessons began to diminish, the YMCA adult volunteers would join in and encourage the other families to join in the activities as well. It was interesting to see the enthusiasm some of the volunteers exhibited during the festival, and it inspired the youth volunteers to be welcoming and connect with the families.

Attendance: Emily Sun (6 hrs), Eileen Zhang (6 hrs), Delrick Shen (6 hrs)
