This year’s Grover Middle School’s production was sure to keep people on the edge of their seat! … The show, West of Pecos, took place on Friday, March 8 and Saturday March 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the GMS auditorium. Grizzled old “Bean” constitutes the fun, romance and drama that make up the legend. They needed volunteers to help with the school play. Greater Princeton AYLUS (GPA) member Amber Yu signed up to become a stage crew member, helping with makeup and hair dressing at the back of the theater, after school.

West of the Pecos is a 1934 American western film directed by Phil Rosen and starring Richard Dix and Martha Sleeper. The screenplay was written Milton Krims and John Twist, who adapted the serial of the same name by Zane Grey, appearing beginning in The American Magazine in 1931 and later as the 1937 novel. It was remade as West of the Pecos in 1945. Here is a brief:

After the Civil War, Colonel Lambeth returns to his country home in Georgia and is reunited with his daughter Terrill. Broke and with no immediate prospects, Lambeth and Terrill decide to sell their property and go West together to re-start their lives. Pecos Smith, a rowdy but honest cowboy working outside San Antonio, kills two cohorts and, with Terrill’s unwilling help, escapes the cantina. Later, while Lambeth drives his cattle west, Terrill and Pecos meet on the range, and Terrill hires the boastful Pecos as a hand. Although exasperated by Pecos’ endless teasing, Terrill maintains her manly disguise and tries desperately to impress him with her masculine abilities. Finally freed from his past, Pecos happily embraces Terrill, who reveals at last her true feminine form.

Amber Yu worked on March 5th, 2:50-3:20 pm (0.5 hour), and March 6th, 2:50-4:50 pm (2 hours) for the school play. She was delighted to assist with the production and make her school play successful.

Besides the school play, Amber continued her “Ed Tutoring” Project to teach a 6th grade student from the same school district. As scheduled, they met on March 19 (1 hour) and March 31 (1 hour). She helped him practice reading, finding the main idea, summarizing, as well as expanding his vocabulary.
