AYLUS Great Neck Branch volunteers will be volunteering at Arboretum State Park on Saturday, September 7, 2024 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.The volunteers’ goal this time was to plant coral trees and spread wood chips on the land near the plants that needed protection.
As soon as the volunteers arrived at the designated location, they started to get busy. The first thing they did was to plant trees. The volunteers first selected a suitable location, then used tools (mainly shovels) to dig a hole suitable for planting coral seedlings, and finally put the coral seedlings that could be planted directly into the hole and covered it with soil.After the volunteers planted the saplings, they began to spread the wood chips.
First, spread a piece of hemp cloth on the ground to keep the road clean. Then pour the sawdust brought by the truck onto the cloth. Then use a shovel or a large iron fork to pile the sawdust on the wheelbarrow. Use the wheelbarrow to transport the sawdust to the land where the sawdust is to be spread, and then pour the sawdust. Finally, use a rake to evenly spread the sawdust on the soil.
Wood chips have positive effects such as protecting trees, preventing weeds from growing, and the organic matter formed by decomposition can fertilize the soil. So this is a very meaningful thing. The volunteers hope to better protect the environment, and they were working for a better earth.
