Greater Princeton AYLUS (GPA) Branch in NJ has many members talented in bilingual skills, reading, writing, and art, who are all in favor of Chinese and American cultures. Using our talents, Greater Princeton Branch continued its “Culture Promotion” project II on January 2nd, 2019.
GPA members have been committed to contribute articles in Chinese with art illustration to newspaper “Junior Reporter Times”. On page A3 of its January 2nd, 2019 issue, GPA team leader Raymond Lin spent 3 hours to author an article, making wishes for the new year. His first wish was to get himself well prepared for the Science Olympiad, and a good rankings in the competition. Raymond especially like science, and wants to have more experience and get ready for the high school, so he knows which subject to choose for the college. His second wish was to write better, because there will be a lot of homework in high school, so it is important to have his writing skills improved. His third wish was to practice the squash to be in the higher levels. Playing squash twice a week, he thinks squash pretty fun. Many good colleges have sports teams, so playing squash might be helpful for Raymond to apply for the colleges.
On page A3 of its January 2nd, 2019 issue, GPA member Chelsea Lin spent 3 hours to author another article. The New Year is coming, she has a lot of wishes, too. First of all, Chelsea wants to grow taller. Although she doesn’t care much about her height, her parents are very concerned. She plans to eat healthier foods and continue to exercise, which hopefully will help her to grow taller. In the New Year, Chelsea also want to finish the “Warriors” series. “Warriors” is a beautiful and interesting series of books. There are five books in a series, and she is reading the second book.
President Cassie Tammy Wang, as the Art Editor-In-Chief of the newspaper, spent 6 hours to take full responsibility to assign, supervise, review, and revise all pages prior to its publication. GPA member and Art Editor Sophia Chen spent 4 hours to make the layout of two pages. Both Cassie and Sophia used Adobe software, such as Photoshop and InDesign to edit photos, create column logs, and make layout of the articles. A lot of time is required in order to make the lay out attractive and beautiful, if not perfect.
On page A2, there was an interesting article about an American Born Chinese girl teaching an American boy how to write Chinese characters. GPA would like to recommend this article to its members as part of its “Ed Tutoring” projects does include teaching someone Chinese in our community., and it fits into the “Culture Promotion” project, too.
While on page A5, there was an article talking about the great importance for the second generation just like who we are, the American Born Chinese, to keep learning our own culture and trying to extend it endlessly to our future generations. Otherwise, it would be a tremendous pity for all.
Congratulations to Raymond Lin, Chelsea Lin, and Cassie Tammy Wang. We look forward to reading more articles of GPA members for the benefit of “Culture Promotion”, which could help make our community better!
