On Saturday, October 15th, 2022, 13 members of the AYLUS Bellaire Branch volunteered at the Nature Discovery Center Pumpkin Patch Fall Festival from 10:00am-2:00pm and 1:00pm – 5:00pm. The Nature Discovery Center held a Pumpkin Patch Festival this year, with games, stalls, and events. They also sold a wide variety of pumpkins at the festival, including heirloom varieties. This annual festival attracted a large crowd from the Bellaire and its neighboring community.
In the morning, volunteers helped set up the assigned stations, including face painting, which was one of the most popular activities at the festival. Once the event started, the AYLUS members helped hold signs and crossed tickets off while parents and children were waiting in line. They greeted each visitor warmly and provided a selection of Halloween-themed designs for children to choose from. Volunteers then painted the selected designs on the visitor’s faces. Volunteers worked nonstop but enjoyed the fun of painting bats, spiders, cat whiskers, flowers, and pumpkins on children’s faces.
Some volunteers also worked at the prize station to give out different levels of prizes to visitors based on the number of stamps they earned at the activity stations.
In the afternoon, volunteers ran and oversaw multiple other games and booths, providing entertainment for the children. They also helped to transport pumpkins and clean up the area after the event was over.
The following volunteers participated in this event:
10:00 am – 2:00 pm (4 hours): Miranda Wang, Justin Wang, Jerry Zhang, Alexander Tang, Justin Du, Rainie Gu, and Shreyas Sinha
