Greater Princeton AYLUS Promotes Youth Volunteerism at Chess Classes & Tournaments (80th) in August 2022

The Greater Princeton Branch of AYLUS (GPA) Sports Committee promotes youth volunteerism while continuing tournaments and a chess schedule with Chess 5334 classes during the summer of 2022. Before class, GPA gives a quick presentation about what AYLUS is and what we do for the community at AYLUS to the students.

On August 9th, the club continued the chess class where students train their tactic skills by solving mate in 1s, 2s, and 3s from the Chess 5334 book. Eager players meet every week to solve some of the most classic chess positions. For this week’s class, we solved tricky checkmate in 2 positions that focused on waiting moves.

On August 13th, 2022, the Chess Club hosted its twenty-fifth tournament fundraiser. With more people joining the ABC Chess Club, even more kids play quality chess against other curious learners.

With the tournament starting, nearly 100 people joined the club to compete in this week’s tournament. Before the tournament started, there was an informational meeting held on zoom to discuss the rules about the tournament and to introduce AYLUS to the participants that are not familiar with the organization, along with mentioning how to donate to help the community.

The tournament started at 7:10 PM EST with many participants, in an 1 hour swiss style tournament. They played many intense games. When the tournament concluded, “mm5460” (3/3 wins, 0 loss, 0 draw) got first place followed by a tie for second with “Gl4262011” (2/3 games) and “linongyan” (2/3 games). Everyone had fun during this tournament and got the chance to play against a variety of different opponents with different skill levels.

ABC Chess Club’s next tournament will be hosted on Saturday, September 3rd, starting at 7PM EST. The time control will remain the same (G15+5) and everyone is welcome. All ages can come and compete with their skills and have fun playing games of chess.
