The AYLUS Bellaire Branch volunteered at Ed White Elementary in Houston on 6/14, 6/15, 6/21, 6/22, and 6/23, 2022.
On those days, volunteers tutored kids from Kindergarten to the 5th grade from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM Volunteers obtained 7 hours of service hours each day they volunteered (6 hours volunteering and 1 hour for commute). Some volunteers helped kids learn basic arithmetic, while others helped them learn how to spell certain words. Along with tutoring kids, volunteers helped fulfill teachers’ needs. On 6/23, from 1 PM to 2:30 PM, Thursday Fun-Day, an event hosted by Ed White Elementary staff to celebrate the last day of the second week of summer school, took place. At this event, the kids at Ed White celebrated their last day of the second week of summer school by playing various games such as Connect 4, Jenga, Uno, etc. Volunteers helped ensure this event ran smoothly by making sure the kids were playing the games correctly and by making sure the kids were maintaining proper etiquette.
