On June 18th, 2022, two of our branch members, which are Luna and Jack, helped to run the “Make it to Market” program and guide the children through various activities at the Kidzu stand at the Farmer’s Market. At our stand, we had two nets with a few butterfly chrysalises, as well as a few different activities for the children to participate in. There was a coloring station where kids could draw and decorate their own pollinators and plants that are pollinated by them, as well as make their own ring with their decorated drawing of a pollinator. Children could also play around with Code-a-Pillar the Caterpillar, allowing them to try to code the robot to move to specific locations, reflecting the act of a pollinator moving from plant to plant. The main purpose of our stand was to teach the children the importance of pollinators, and how they all have aided to the production of all the foods that were at other stands in the market.
Volunteers who participated in this event are: Luna Chen (2.5 hours), Jack Xu (2.5 hours)
