On Sunday, June 1, 2025, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM, Newtown AYLUS members organized and participated in a college informational seminar for local families. The seminar, featuring five guest speakers, focused on navigating the college application process, specifically tailored to medicine and science-focused careers and pathways.
AYLUS members arrived early at the venue, preparing the seats and greeting every family at the door with pens and paper in case anyone had questions to ask. They took charge of hosting and announcing each speaker, providing a short description of their intended majors and universities. Volunteers helped manage time, ensuring the program stayed on schedule and didn’t end too late.
Following the guest speakers’ presentations was a Q&A portion, where audience members could ask any questions they had developed during the presentations. During this time, AYLUS volunteers surveyed the crowd and delivered microphones to each questioner, ensuring everyone in the room could hear the question clearly. Following the event, members stayed and helped clean the venue, leaving it as clean as it was prior to the event.
Overall, the event was a success: guest speakers were able to share their experiences navigating college applications, audience members had the opportunity to ask any questions about college and majors to the presenters, and AYLUS members were able to support the community and provide resources to help navigate a daunting task!
AYLUS members who participated are: Eric Chen (2 hours), Diana Zhang (2 hours), Sarah Xue (2 hours), Ivan Lee (2 hours), Lucas Zhang (2 hours)
