Every Saturday starting from January 11th to April 12th, the Ridgewood Branch held beginner English lessons from 3:45 to 4:15 at the Ridgecrest Senior Housing Apartments.
For 13 lessons and 1.5 hours per lesson, we created our own essential English vocabulary words to non-English speaking senior citizens at the Ridgecrest Apartments in Ridgewood. From slowly teaching pronunciations, spellings, and even using this vocabulary in short sentences, we learned how to effectively teach in many different ways, giving us a different perspective on our own respective education. By teaching these senior citizens English, they could communicate with others living at the apartments and use these new words in the real world, when buying groceries. We plan to continue these lessons once per week, learn lessons about resilience and compassion, as well as giving us a chance to impact other lives.
Members participated include: Eric Zhou (19.5 hours), Ryan Cheng (7.5 hours), Hubert (3 hours). This is a recurring event and still going on.
Event signup sheet is kept in record.
