On Sunday, April 20, 2025, 4 AYLUS Bellaire Branch members volunteered at the Beacon Day Center to help end homelessness. The Beacon is a non-profit organization that serves individuals experiencing homelessness with daily services including breakfast and lunch meals, laundry, and showers, as well as counseling resources, mentoring, and access to housing.
Members helped wash freshly grown spinach from the garden and prepare the coleslaw and sweet potato. During lunchtime, the volunteers checked off, warmly greeted the homeless individuals, and asked and served them their food choices. The lunch meal included pork pasta, beef patties with rice, spinach, collared greens, sweet potato, cabbage, fruit salad, vegetable salad, dressing, and chocolate bars. Once lunchtime was over, volunteers cleaned up the kitchen, washed dishes, broomed the floor, and placed leftover food into storage containers.
Volunteers who attended (3 hours) (10 AM – 1 PM): Miranda Wang, Justin Wang, Ryan Li, Matthew Zong
