AYLUS Roslyn Volunteers at the Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County’s Group Home (39th) on February 15th, 2025

On Saturday, February 15th, 2025, AYLUS Roslyn volunteers went to East Meadow to volunteer at a residential house. We’ve been to this house many times and had a great time with the residents. Unfortunately, the staff informed us that one of the residents had passed away recently and that the house was very understaffed as their manager had been out sick. We came to the house and were able to cheer up and raise the spirits of everyone and give the hard-working staff a break.

To start, we made a healthy Greek yogurt cake. The residents took turns putting the ingredients into the bowl, mixing all the ingredients together, and finally baking the cake. While the cake was baking, we created many colorful birdhouses and wind chimes. The birdhouses and windchimes came out beautiful, with many different colors and designs. In addition to the birdhouses, we added butterflies or cars to the houses. They looked great! After this, we ate the cake and it tasted great. All the residents loved it and even asked for seconds. We also had a taste and enjoyed it. After the cake, we played an intense game of Monopoly where we played for an hour, buying properties and having a great time. During this game, we all were all had a good time having many conversations and enjoying the game.

During our visit, we raised the spirits of the residents and staff. One of the residents told us that he was very very happy and that he couldn’t wait for the next time we came. They even asked how they could contact someone for us to come back sooner. One of the staff told us that it was great that we came to give them a break and to give the residents a fun day of activities. We had so much fun with the residents and we hope to come back soon!
