On December 21, 2024, Murrieta AYLUS members returned to their garden with a sense of accomplishment and excitement. They were delighted to see that the sponge gourds, which had been hand-pollinated the previous week, were thriving and growing strong. It was a gratifying sight, as their careful work had clearly paid off. In addition to tending to the gourd plants, the volunteers loosened the soil in several garden beds, ensuring that the roots had plenty of room to grow and absorb nutrients. As part of their ongoing harvest, they collected even more fresh lettuce and yu choy sum, both of which were flourishing thanks to the group’s diligent care. Members washed all vegetables and thoughtfully attached handwritten notes to each bundle. The members truly showed their care for the well-being of the residents through these small personal touches. The members left the garden feeling proud of their work, knowing that their efforts would not only nourish the residents but also foster a deeper sense of community.
