On December 8, 2024, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, AYLUS Syosset Branch volunteers supported Island Harvest to conduct a food drive at Stop & Shop, located at 3750 Hempstead Turnpike, Levittown, NY 11756. The team comprised Yuqi Nie, Elva Chen, Justin Lin, and Kingston Lu, each dedicating four hours to the event.
Event Details:
- Coordination with Store Management: Store manager Kevin was instrumental in facilitating the event, providing support and ensuring smooth operations.
- Addressing Scheduling Conflicts: Upon arrival, the volunteers discovered that the Levittown Fire Department had also scheduled a food drive at the same location, arriving around 10:30 am. After discussions, both groups agreed to share the venue: AYLUS volunteers managed the main front exit, while the fire department utilized the back exit.
- Volunteer Activities:
- Engaging Shoppers: Volunteers distributed flyers to incoming customers, informing them about the food drive and encouraging contributions.
- Collecting Donations: The team graciously received donated items from patrons, expressing gratitude and organizing the contributions into designated bags and boxes.
- Special Donations: Generous donors contributed three frozen turkeys. These were stored in the store’s freezer during the event and retrieved upon its conclusion.
Post-Event Actions:
After the food drive, the collected goods and monetary donations were delivered to Island Harvest’s warehouse at 126 Spagnoli Road, Melville, NY 11747.
