On 12/16/23, members of AYLUS Syosset participated in removing invasive English ivy from a section of Bayard to help prep the area for a new tree to be planted. English ivy is a non-native invasive plant on Long Island and invasive species are capable of causing extinctions of native plants and animals, reducing biodiversity, competing with native organisms for limited resources, and altering habitats.
After clearing the area, we toured the manor on the grounds and learned about the history of the Cutting family and how they lived.
Members who participated are: Suiying Li(3hrs) and Margaret Zhang(3hrs).
