On Saturday, August 5th, and Sunday, August 6th, AYLUS Twin Cities hosted a free computer science workshop for elementary school students at the Hopkins Library in Hopkins, MN. The first day was an introductory course on Swift, an Apple programming language that students used to build two different apps. The second day was an introduction to Scratch, a popular basic coding language, where students built and customized a Pong game. AYLUS volunteers had a great time bonding with the kids by helping them with their code and providing them with interesting challenges to stretch them intellectually. It was particularly a good experience because we were able to use our talents and strengths in Computer Science to help educate kids and instill a love for learning.
