On July 23, 2023, AYLUS Pearland members joined this project as volunteers at the special needs care center (LSA), volunteers eager to make a difference for the special needs kids, the mural became a source of inspiration and happiness. It created an engaging environment that sparked conversations, promoted creativity, and encouraged social interaction among them.
Zide Liu led this service project provided by the Light and Salt Association. At the beginning, Zide explained the project picture for volunteers, how to use materials and tools, and discussed how they should grid the wall for easier sketching. They then divided volunteers into three teams, each team working on different sections of the mural sketching and painting. Wendy Yin, Cathy Xie and Callie Meng were working on park section, Julia Xiao, Anna Zheng and Caroline Fu were working on LSA section, Zide Liu, Emerson Li and Jack Liu were working on the office buildings section. Finally, Cathy Xie and Callie Meng were working in the people section.
At the end of the day, moreover, volunteers were able to work together. All the volunteers enjoyed this new experience and were happy with the progress of their work.
