On Friday, July 21st, AYLUS Pearland volunteered at the SMILE Program, a special needs care center. During the first half of the day, the volunteers assisted in teaching drum lessons. Students were given buckets and drumsticks to produce music and prepare for their upcoming performance. Later in the afternoon, volunteers helped in helping the students learn how to cook. Finally, the day ended with arts and crafts classes. Each of these lessons was provided by the staff and teachers from the Light and Salt Association but the volunteers greatly assisted in making the experience much more enjoyable.
All in all, by imparting valuable skills and offering an outlet for self-expression, the volunteers not only enriched the children’s lives but also left an indelible mark on the community as a whole.
Volunteers (6hrs): Emma Lu, Caroline Fu, Suya Yang, Junxi Ding, Hosanna, Jordan Zheng
