Chapel Hill Branch Volunteers for Vegetable Harvesting and Packaging at Wildflower Lane Farm on July 16, 2023

In the bright early morning of Saturday, July 16th, some especially hard-working members of the AYLUS Chapel Hill Branch went to help out Wildflower Lane Farm. Wildflower Lane Farm was especially notable for donating most of its proceeds to PORCH, a local delivery service that donates fresh food to underprivileged families. Two of our youngest members went to help out in picking cherry tomatoes and cucumbers. While the rest helped out with removing the pesky weeds in the white pepper farm. These weeds drain the nutrients and flavor out of the local crops so it was imperative that they should be removed. It was arduous work however AYLUS arrived earlier in the morning so that the members didn’t have to endure the scorching heat. The local farmer Jim luckily provided the AYLUS members with a tractor tarp so we could kneel on the ground and off the muddy ground. We had to be careful so as not to rip up the actual peppers or look out for ant hills because if you fought an ant hill, the ants would win. We spent around three hours weeding but weeded through three entire rows of crops. At the end, we picked 70 boxes of cherry tomatoes and 25 lbs of cucumbers. Luckily we left just as the sun reached its zenith. We will always try our best to help out in our community however we can! GO AYLUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Volunteers who participated in this event are Henry Wang (3 hrs), Michelle Lan (3 hrs), Thomas Jin (3 hrs), Karen Lin (3 hrs), Kasi Lin (3 hrs), and Kayla Lin (3 hrs)
