On July 14 evening, AYLUS Syosset President Alyssa Huang and Vice President Sophia Liu jointly taught their first art learning program. Members brought their own art supplies including paper, watercolors, brushes, markers, oil pastel and colored pencils to the program room (host: secretary Rachel Zhang). Members gathered and taught four elementary school students ranging from ages 6-10 how to use reference images of their favorite animals and cartoon characters to make their own drawings. Students experimented with using alcohol markers, oil pastels and watercolors to color their drawings. The teachers were able to learn about what the students liked and collaboratively worked to help them draw their favorite things. AYLUS Syosset hopes to recruit more teachers and students and will continue its art program one to two times a week for the duration of the summer.
