Julia worked 3 hour library shifts per day for three days this week.
At the Southwest OKC Pioneer Library, Julia assisted with children’s programs, including the Music Connect program and Kick-start Kindergarten program. She demonstrated songs and dances to encourage participation from kids, passed out supplies such as instruments, and cleaned chairs, tables, and supplies after the program was over. This promoted summer learning in kids and prepared them with skills needed for the future.
At the Southern Oaks Metropolitan Library, Julia worked a desk shift for the summer reading program. Her job was to log hours of participants and distribute prizes. This promoted retention of reading skills during the summer for people of all ages. Additionally, Julia assisted with the Summer Solstice Celebration. She set up chairs, art supplies, and tables and cleaned paint and trash after the program. She made sure kids were participating and having fun by helping them get supplies and explaining the activities – painting rocks and making flower crowns. This program encouraged creativity and art appreciation of kids.
Note that she was unable to wear her Aylus shirt due to a direct request from the library staff.
