On June 6th , 2023, AYLUS volunteers worked with their long-time partner organization, the Light and Salt Association’s SMILE program. Volunteers were able to choose which students were allotted more attention.

She also worked on students vocabulary by making students identify specific words in accordance with pictures.
For thehe next hour, Hosanna taught students reading comprehension. Students were asked to read a story, then answer questions regarding the story. After, students were provided a worksheet relating to the story they had read which focused on their grammar choices.
In the afternoon, Jiaqi Ren taught students crafts. Students used construction paper, scissors, and glue to make chrysanthemum flowers. Students learned about the meaning of chrysanthemums and each made a colorful flower with the assistance of volunteers.
For the last hour, students were outside for exercise/games. Students started with warm-up, dribbling a ball from one end of the parking lot to the other and back. Then, students played games such as shooting basketballs, croquet, and sidewalk chalk. These games improve students’ physical health and hand-eye coordination.
