On Saturday from 9:30 – 12:00, the Roslyn Branch volunteered at the Kings Park Psychiatric Center to revitalize a historic facility.
The park has a long history of nearly 100 years. Due to people’s negligence, many things have been destroyed. The purpose of the volunteers today is to clean the area and bring a suitable environment for the subsequent planting.
AYLUS volunteers first focused on moving the overgrown vegetation and rocks. We started by picking up small stones on the ground to provide a good environment for the landscape fabric. Then dig the weeds out of the ground to reduce the spreading speed of weeds. After that, we started to make sandscape fabric that has been installed to provide a solid foundation for future landscaping endeavors. We put black plastic textiles on the ground to further prevent the growth of weeds and put on staples to fix it. Volunteers believe that the green nursing home will be functional in the future.
The comprehensive restoration initiative is breathing new life into the Kings Park Psychiatric Center, honoring its historical significance while bringing it back to full functionality.
