On May 5th, from 5:30-8:30 pm, the first Pearland Concert in the Park event of 2023 was
successfully held at Southdown Park, with the help of younger aspiring participants from
numerous different organizations. They worked with the City of Pearland Parks and
Recreation team to facilitate an enjoyable and structured free-music event for all the
residents in the Pearland community.
The volunteers arrived an hour early to set up the survey booths and supplies for traffic
directions. Half of them were assigned to manage direct reflections from the recreation
center, such as asking attendees to scan QR codes and encouraging them to visit the
stands. To incentivize the QR-code surveys, each person who filled one out had the
opportunity to enter their name into a raffle drawing, with many great prizes!
While these volunteers engaged with a diverse portion of individuals, the other half set
up parking signs and ensured that incoming families knew exactly where to park. A
group of approximately eight volunteers stood in the field to set up extraneous parking
lots, direct traffic at the entrance, and give directions. Even though the job felt mundane
and excessive, it was a great learning process with the necessary procedures to have a
smooth-running event, involving a balance of team cooperation.
Everyone put in lots of hard work and collaboration to initiate a successful first concert
of the year, allowing the community to have an amazing time enjoying their Friday night
with friends and families. As a result, the City of Pearland Parks and Recreation center
was very proud and urged many volunteers to come back again.
The Concert in the Park Series is held every Friday evening throughout the next few
months, anyone is gladly welcome to help!
