On April 29, 2023, the three members (Lucy Liu, Farah Mbem and Hana Mbem) of the AYLUS Santa Clarita Valley Branch joined the Neighborhood Clean-Up event for Santa Clarita in celebration of Earth Day and Arbor Day. The event lasted from 8 AM – 11 AM, totaling 3 hours of service. The volunteers started at Bridgeport Elementary School community area, and they drove to the Rockwell Canyon Road, Valley Marketplace parking area, Target store parking area and Panera Bread parking area to pick up the trash such as paper or plastic cups and bags and other trash and dispose the trash bags to in trash bins nearby. This experience was not only special because it was commemorative and had a great turnout, but also it gave us an opportunity to keep Santa Clarita green and make our society cleaner and more beautiful. This Earth Day project reminded us of the responsibility we all have to preserve the environment, and working together and hearing others’ gratitude for our work only increased our bonding with each other and our community.
