On March 25th, 2023, we—six members from the Frisco & Plano branch of AYLUS—hosted a trash cleanup at the Iron Horse Trail in Frisco in the afternoon. We obtained permission from the City of Frisco before embarking on the cleanup, also making sure to properly respect our surroundings.
We began by walking down the right fork and trekked as far as we could while collecting trash along the way. Realizing that there was a particularly dense concentration of garbage near the streams and lakes, we decided to wait until walking back to collect it. On our walk back to the fork, we collected any trash that was missed. Everyone worked extremely hard to collect what we could, especially when working next to the streams and lakes. Several volunteers ventured close to a stream and gathered a large amount of garbage from its waters and banks. After reaching the fork once more, we walked down the left path. Along the sides of the trail, we noticed a lot of garbage stuck in the bushes and trees that were located uphill, on top of long ledges of stone. We then proceeded to make our way up to the garbage and acquired a surprising sum of waste; these included tissues, styrofoam, paper plates, a broken bucket, pieces of paper, packaging wrappers, plastic bags, etc. The result of our cleanup hard work and around eight to nine bags of garbage! The volunteers were all extremely generous to help out, and their assistance is greatly appreciated.
