On February 18th and 25th, 2023, AYLUS volunteers Nova Mu, ShaoTan Liu, Erica Gao, and Anne Wong went to E.D White elementary school to tutor kids. After entering the cafeteria, each volunteer was assigned a specific child to help with either mathematics or English. The children were given educational activities to work through in the forms of board games, textbooks, etc. Around midday the students and volunteers were offered snacks and free-time.
During break times, some students ran into areas that were cut off from the cafeteria (on stage, behind the stage curtains, the teacher’s lounge, etc). Other students had problems using appropriate language/behavior toward the volunteers when frustrated. However, this group of student’s behavior does not reflect on the majority of the other students, as most of them were well behaved and obedient.
