On February 5th, eight members of the AYLUS Frisco & Plano branch collected more than 1500+ books as donations from a family in Plano for the Libraries with Love project.
The goal of Libraries with Love is to help build 3-5 libraries for children in Africa by the end of 2023 as many regions of Africa do not have books or other educational resources to support children living there. You can visit https://librarieswithlove.org to learn more and email aylusfriscoplano@gmail.com if you have used books you would like to donate to help build libraries.
With the addition of this massive collection of books that were donated, we have taken a significant step closer to our goal of building these libraries.
Because of the large number of books sitting there unorganized, we had spent a lot of time to pickup them and rearranged into our boxes for better transportation. Our members did not waste any time to and worked very hard. They each had to collect over 400 books to complete this major task. We were able to collect 2000+ in day one and 1500+ books in day two. Though we had prepared hundreds of boxes for storage, the amount of books was still completely out of our expectation and we easily ran out of boxes even on day one. We are really thankful for our parents, who provided additional boxes in time so that we could finish the task at hand and provided members with rides to the location. We also appreciated the friendly neighbors who were willing to offer boxes as well as more books!
However, even though we have collected such large amount of books, there is still more to be collected from this family, and we are looking forward to finish collecting within 1-2 weeks. It is never too late to help and you can always contact the email above if you have more books to donate!
Overall, we are proud of our members that came to help with this major feat and it is thanks to the collaboration of everyone that we were able to finish it.
