AYLUS Pearland Practiced and Performed Drum Play with SMILE on Jan 14th and 21th

On Saturday January 14th, AYLUS volunteers and SMILE students practiced their
performance for the upcoming Lunar New Year Gala at the West Pearland Library from 6:00 pm
to 7:00 pm. Though this was the first time the volunteers and the SMILE students practiced
together, they played to near perfection by the end of the rehearsal.

On Saturday January 21st, AYLUS and SMILE students arrived at Pearland Junior High
West to rehearse their performance on stage in the afternoon. At 7pm the Gala
began and both the AYLUS volunteers and SMILE students performed “Wavin’ Flag” to the
audience of nearly one thousand guests. At the end of the performance, SMILE student Auggie
was interviewed on stage about his experience with playing the drums and music. The special
needs students of SMILE and their families are all very thankful for the service AYLUS
continues to provide. Overall, both AYLUS and SMILE have benefited tremendously from this
experience, from engaging with the community to practicing skills in music and teamwork.
