Murrieta AYLUS Lends a Hand to The Little Garden of Hope Project (1st) (11/12/22)

Reported by Julie Lu

On November 12, 2022, Murrieta AYLUS members Jessica Lu and Hsin-Chen Lu went to Home Depot to buy supplies before heading to Jacob’s House to start working on The Little Garden of Hope project.

The Little Garden of Hope is a passion project started by one of the Murrieta AYLUS members who wish to start a small garden where they will grow fruits and vegetables that they will later donate to help hungry children. In hopes of finding a place where they could start the project, Murrieta AYLUS Branch contacted Jacob’s House, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization based in Temecula, CA, who agreed to allow the member to use their garden as they pleased.

And so, early Saturday morning, the members headed to Jacob’s House to clear the area so that sunlight could reach the beds. Due to safety concerns, the parent volunteers helped with cutting the branches and the members worked hard at taking them away to dispose of. Many of the branches that have been cut down were much taller than the members! After all the overhanging branches had been cleared, the members tidied up the area so that all the twigs and leaves that broke off were removed, leaving the place the same as when they first arrived. The members were excited to help start this project, and we look forward to our next time!
