On Sunday from 1:30 pm – 5:00 pm, the Roslyn AYLUS branch helped out at a school of Chinese Cultural Association of Long Island.
Five members participated and we split into three groups- two groups of 2 and one group of 1- and dispersed into separate rooms. From 1:30-4:00 we help the students sharpen their pencils, flip to the correct page in their textbook, remain seated, and correct their pronunciations. We brought the kids to the school store where we supervised them exchanging coupons for snacks and we made multiple trips to the bathrooms with seven year olds in tow. We even solved the mystery of the missing workbook and helped the group of boys sort out their unintentional workbook swap. At 4:00, we went to different stations to help out at electives. Some of us assisted in supervision of Kungfu classes to ensure safety. Others cut up paper strips and distributed them for their fall tree project in arts and crafts.
Members who participated include:
Yang Amy Wu (3.5 hours), Olivia Yang (3.5 hours), Tiffany Lin (3.5 hours), Fanxi Xia (3.5 hours), and Zihan Wang (3.5 hours).
